When your lamps start to drift, you get “cold spots” in the preform. It’s frustrating because you’re fighting the machine instead of running it. We build our replacement lamps to hit the exact spectral output and wattage you need to get that thermal field steady again. The nitty-gritty on heat density Here’s the thing about KHS systems: it’s all a balancing act between voltage and wattage. That’s what decides how fast your PET hits its glass transition temperature. If you have high wattage in a small footprint, you get intense infrared radiation. That’s great because it means faster cycle times. But there’s a catch. You have to make sure your power supplies match the voltage of the new tubes. And whatever you do, don’t over-volt a tube just to make up for a dying heater. You’ll fry the filament in no time. Quartz and connectors (The easy part) We use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because impurities block IR transmission, and we don’t want anything getting in the way of the heat. Most of our tubes use standard R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re simple drop-in replacements. You just slide them into the sockets and you’re done—no messing around with the oven wiring. Plus, some of our lamps have a special coating that bounces the heat inward. It pushes the energy into the preform instead of letting it waste away on the oven walls. Real talk: The shop floor Switching to high-performance lamps can fix your uniformity issues, but it isn’t magic. High-density lamps put a lot more stress on your cooling fans. If your ventilation is clogged or just too weak, all that extra heat can actually warp your lamp holders. Check your airflow first. Then ramp up the power.
