We don’t just slap a plastic cover on the box and call it a day. We use precision-molded gaskets and sealed cable entries to lock everything down. **Here’s the clever part:**we seal the exact spot where the wiring meets the power supply. This stops “wicking,” which is just a fancy way of saying moisture shouldn’t be able to crawl along your cable like a straw to fry your connections.
Fighting the fog
Condensation is the silent killer here. We shaped the housing so that any moisture that does manage to get in just drains away from the electrics. We also manage the heat levels inside so the reflectors don’t fog up. Why does that matter? Because a foggy reflector is like a dirty mirror. It kills the “throw” of the heat, meaning you’re left shivering while the heater is running full blast.
The one trade-off
Now, look, there is a catch. When you seal a unit this tightly to keep the rain out, you’re also blocking the wind. Since air can’t flow through the chassis as easily as it would in a cheap, open-air model, heat builds up inside faster. Just make sure you mount it on a surface that lets it breathe. If it can’t dissipate that heat, the thermal cutoff will kick in and shut the whole thing down right when you’re trying to enjoy your evening. We build these things to take a beating.
