Why “Explosion-Proof” Quartz?
Here is the thing about standard quartz tubes: they can be temperamental. If a cold drop of water hits a red-hot tube, the glass can shatter. It’s just basic physics. To stop that from happening, we use explosion-proof quartz. These tubes are built to handle those sudden, jarring temperature swings. And if the glass does happen to fail, the “explosion-proof” part means it doesn’t send shards flying across your bathroom. It keeps everything contained and safe.
The Trade-offs: Heat vs. Handling
We use high-purity quartz because it’s great at pushing out short-wave infrared radiation. You don’t have to wait around for the room to warm up; the heat hits your skin almost instantly. It feels great on a cold morning. But there’s a catch. Quartz is more fragile than ceramic. When you’re installing these, you have to be careful with the mounting brackets. The exterior seal is only half the battle. Inside the unit, the wiring is taking a beating from the heat. We always suggest high-temp silicone wiring. Standard insulation can melt over time, and that’s a problem you don’t want. By pairing an IP44 housing with explosion-proof glass, you’re basically building a safety net. The housing keeps the water out, and the glass handles the shock if a leak ever manages to sneak through. It’s just a smarter way to build.
