
Why we’re ditching those old bathroom lamp heaters
You know those old-school bathroom heaters? The ones with the big, bright bulbs that try to warm up the air? They’re bulky, they’re a pain to deal with, and let’s be honest—they usually burn out right when you actually need them. Lately, we’ve been moving toward high-IP infrared towel rail heaters. It’s a different way of thinking about warmth. It’s all about how you feel the heat. Those old lamp heaters spend all their energy fighting the cold air in the room. It takes forever. Infrared is different. It sends warmth straight to your towel or your skin. It’s instant. You don’t have to wait for the whole bathroom to warm up before you step out of the shower. Plus, it doesn’t just disappear the second your ventilation fan kicks in. The battle against steam Steam is a nightmare for electronics. It gets into everything. Most standard heaters fail because moisture sneaks into the connections or the housing, causing a short or just rusting the insides. That’s why the “IP rating” actually matters here. When we use something like IPX4, we’re basically sealing the guts of the heater away from the water. It stops the corrosion before it starts, so the thing actually lasts. Saving space These units are way sleeker than the giant boxes you used to see in the ceiling. We usually wire them right into the wall, right next to where you hang your towel. The heat is exactly where you want it, not ten feet above your head. A quick heads-up on the install Since infrared elements get really hot in one specific spot, you have to be smart about where they go. You can’t just slap these against a plastic wall or something flammable. If you’re using a high-density element, make sure the wall can handle the heat without warping. Give it at least 10cm of breathing room from any combustible materials. You don’t want to end up with scorch marks on your beautiful new tiles.
