Ever notice how some bottles come off the line with weird wall thickness, or worse, just fail completely? Usually, it’s because your heat distribution is all over the place. Here is the thing: most of the time, it comes down to a power mismatch. If you swap in IR lamps that aren’t a perfect match for your original Sidel SBO specs, you’re asking for trouble. You’ll end up with “cold spots” in some areas and burnt patches in others. It’s a nightmare to balance. Why the numbers actually matter We build our lamps to mirror the original OEM power curves exactly. Why? Because even a tiny 5% difference in wattage shifts the infrared wavelength. When that happens, your operators usually do the only thing they can—they crank up the oven temp to make up for it. That’s a slippery slope. It kills your lamp life faster and risks overheating the neck of the preform. Keeping the power consistent is the only way to keep your thermal profile stable across every single zone. The gear itself These are simple drop-in replacements. No fuss. We use high-purity quartz glass because it can take the punch of rapid heating and cooling without cracking. The filaments are tuned to your specific SIPA voltage, so the heat hits exactly where the preform needs it. Plus, they use standard industrial connectors (R7s or SK15), so you can just wire them in without messing around with your sockets. We even have coated options that bounce the heat back toward the preform, which saves you a bit on the power bill. A quick tip from the shop floor Getting the power right solves the fluctuation, but it does put a bit more pressure on your electrical contacts. High-wattage lamps pull a lot of current. If your sockets are pitted or look crusty with oxidation, you’re going to see voltage drops. It doesn’t matter how great the lamp is if the power can’t get to it. Do yourself a favor: check your connections while you’re installing the new lamps. If a socket looks burnt, toss it and put in a new one. Otherwise, you’re just inviting arcing, and your brand-new lamp will burn out way too soon.
