
Getting Your SACMI Heaters Up to Speed Without the Headache
If you’re running SACMI rotary blow molding machines, you know they don’t exactly move slow. Everything is high-frequency, high-pressure. The last thing you need is to be standing around waiting for your preform heater lamps to warm up while production grinds to a halt. That’s why we build our lamps the way we do. We make them factory-direct because they need to handle those rapid-fire cycles without breaking a sweat. The secret is in the heat. To kill that annoying start-up lag, we play with the ratio of wattage to tube length. We use a high-density tungsten filament, which basically means the lamp hits its peak infrared output in a matter of seconds. But here’s the thing: you’ve got to get your voltage exactly right. If it doesn’t match your power supply, you’re looking at flickering or, worse, a lamp that burns out way before its time. Sure, cranking up the wattage gives you more heat flux, but it also puts a lot more stress on the quartz. It’s a balancing act. Built to take a beating We use heavy-wall quartz glass because these things go through an absolute thermal rollercoaster. Thin glass would just warp. As for the connectors, we stick with standard R7s or SK15. They’re simple drop-in replacements. No fuss. We focus on making sure the electrical contact is tight, because that’s usually where things go wrong. A loose connection creates a hot spot, and before you know it, you’ve melted your socket. Not a fun way to spend a Tuesday. Keeping it cool while running hot These lamps push out the kind of short-wave IR that cuts right through PET preforms. It gets the plastic evenly heated and ready for the blow mold fast. But a word of advice:keep an eye on your cooling fans. These lamps are aggressive. They start fast and they run hot. If your ventilation isn’t keeping up with the total BTU output of the oven, you risk frying your surrounding circuitry. Our lamps can handle the grit and grime of a factory floor, but they still need to breathe. Keep the airflow constant, and they’ll keep humming along.
